Here’s how to relieve stress and its awful effects
Being
a human is complicated. You are frustrated, you encounter stress and
you can even get a depression on your head. You ask yourself how to
relieve stress quite too often.
Especially
when you’re not a kid anymore. These things are sparking up
everywhere in your daily life: stressful
work, trust
issues in your relationship, the feeling of not getting enough of
anything, the thought that you deserve more. It’s like humans are
not built to be happy. Yet, I think, is sadness the default mode of
humans? Well,if so, it can be changed, for sure. I mean, everywhere I
saw ‘default’ in something, I had the option of changing it. Why
should life be any different? Could frustrations be something good?
It’s, like, the most customizable thing ever.
Before
beginning, let’s have a look at each of these
three states of being. If I sum up the next paragraphs, I may tell
you that all of these are nothing else than chemical reactions in
your brain, but let’s not be so cynical.
How to relieve stress and what it is.
Stress is
a reaction that your body has to external stimuli, usually. When
stressed, the body thinks it is under attack and switches to ‘fight
or flight’ mode, releasing a complex mix of hormones and chemicals
such as adrenaline, cortisol and norepinephrine to prepare the body
for physical action. This causes a number of reactions, from blood
being diverted to muscles to shutting down unnecessary bodily
functions such as digestion.
After
a deeper research, I managed to find a study to
show you a photo of how it looks like, so here you go (I’m nice, I
know):
Beautiful,
isn’t it? Your brain activity.. Which you can use in your benefit.
You don't benefit from stress.
If
you want me to tell you ways to relax your mind, here are some. Calm
down, it's your brain which you control, not the brain that controls
you. Stress
management, try
it (basically you just chill and tell yourself that you have nothing
to be stressed about). You have no real reason to be stressed about
something. Yet, everyone is. The stress you’re feeling cannot bring
anything more than negative outcomes, on the short run and on the
long run. Remember Timon and Pumba? “Hakuna Matata!”.
And
something more. You can find quick stress relievers everywhere, but
the quickest one is breath. Inhale deeply and slowly for like 6-7
seconds, hold it in 3-4 seconds and exhale again for 7-8 seconds and
repeat it like 5 times, but don’t think of anything. Done, this
is how
to relieve stress and
anxiety and everything else.
What
is depression?
Depression (major
depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that
negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.
Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of
sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can
lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease
a person’s ability to function at work and at home. We can say that
depression is just a biological reaction to stress.
Some
state that a depressed brain looks just like a normal brain. They
know the neurochemicals play a role, but the phenomenon is still not
fully understood.
This
is yet another example explaining you are in the control. Your
neurochemicals are the main problem, probably. If this is the case,
you have control over them. Why would you accept feeling deeply sad,
alone and unmeaningful? You
can see from the image above, feeling depressed does not light your
brain, which is not good. Your brain activity is low. More than this,
the state controls your thoughts. Just take control over it, it’s
not like you’re all set on ’whatever, default’ mode at all
times. You’re the one controling the machine, not it controlling
you, think of this. And do one thing, breathe. You can do it, it’s
not thet hard. This is how to relieve stress really quick (sorry if I
sound annoying, but it has to get into your mind).
What is frustration?
Isn’t
frustration the same as stress, or something? - you may ask. Well,
kind of. Stress necessits an external stimuli. It activates when not
so good things happen to you, like a dying friend or parent or dog,
the work environment, waiting in line when you’re on a tight
schedule, etc.
Being
frustrated is just a response to that, as well as anger, sadness,
anxiety. Of course, bad things never come alone, therefore Adrenaline
and stress hormones levels are joining the party to give you the
worst day. So you develop behaviours to cope with this (same with
depression) as there are smoking, eating too much, drinking too
much...you know, trying to feel good and fulfilling your soul with
food or booze and a perfect fitting cancerous cigarette. You know,
how to relax
101.
So,
this is another bad thing happening to you, because you don’t hold
control. You know, there is thins thing called Emotional Intelligence
which summed up means 4 things:
1) Self-awareness:
Knowing, understanding and being able to manipulate what
you
think and feel and why you do it
2) Self-Management:
Understanding how you feel in any situation, and acting in
control.
Like when your friend eats the last piece of chocolate which you kept
for after the dinner.
3) Empathy:
well, being empathic, you know? Being there for your peers when
they
need you and being able to understand how they feel and directing
them towards feeling better
4) Social
skills:
basically, being nice to others, so they won’t hate you, mostly.
So,
as another bit of how to relieve stress, you have these 4 things that
will help you with anger, frustrations, depression and even having a
crush who doesn’t like you back. This is depressive. I can tell you
that I escaped the trap of having a bad crush using these things.
Well, the first two of them, at least. You can relax your mind and
get rid of any feeling you want if handled correctly.
To
conclude, stress is a major cause for a lot of behaviors that have a
negative impact on your body on the short term and on the long term.
It can be expressed in a lot of feelings, but I chose to write about
two of them: depression and frustrations. Best way to get rid of any
of the two, learn how to relax. Use stress management. How? Well, you
could look it up, but i give you 2 pieces of advice: 1 breathe deep
and slow a few times and use your self awareness to monitorize and
control your thoughts, and there is your stress
relief.
